“Dude, I really don’t want to.” Nick sighed, holding his phone almost as if it was a ten pound weight. “She’s gonna think I like her.”
“Well don’t you?” Joe looked over at him, raising his eyebrows. “You guys were always making out on set.”
“I know but… I don’t really like her like that.”
“Who else are you gonna invite? She’s your best shot.”
“It’ll just be weird. You and Demi… And me and Nicole. I don’t know, I just don’t think either of us will have fun. She knows I don’t like her.”
“And how does she know that?”
“I kind of told her…” He said quietly, remembering how awkward that day was. They were sort of a thing, for a while, but then he realized he just wanted to have someone to make out with and she happened to be around, so… That happened.
“Dude!” Joe said, exasperated as he knocked his little brother over the head lightly. “You don’t do that!”
“Well how else was she supposed to know? I had to tell her!” He defended, sighing back into the couch cushions. “It’ll be insanely awkward.”
“What’ll be insanely awkward?” Demi asked as she walked in, bowl of popcorn in hand. She smiled at the boy and sat down between them, snuggling into Joe’s said as she looked over at Nick questioningly.
“Nothing… I just don’t know who I wanna bring on the double date.” He nodded. It was Demi’s idea in the first place. It would be fun; they could all go out together and have a great time. Except Nick was single and Joe wasn’t as into Demi as she was into him so the very idea of the whole night was just wrong.
“Why don’t you invite Nicole? She likes you, you know.” She smiled at him, taking a bite of popcorn.
Nick bit his lip slightly, knowing that telling her he didn’t like Nicole would just create more unnecessary conversation. He sighed and looked back down at his phone, figuring what the hell? How bad could it be?
Turns out it was worse than he could have imagined.
